- On the day of the treatment, please keep your skin clean and do not apply makeup, creams, perfumes, and/or oils.
- If an active or extreme breakout occurs before treatment, please consult your medical aesthetician. No makeup on treatment day. (Before and After treatment)
Right After
You will feel sunburnt, your skin will appear red, swollen, moist, and sensitive depending on the depth of the treatment. Mild bruising may occur and if so it is only temporary. Day 2 – your skin will appear red/pink, swollen, you will feel temperature-sensitive and maybe a little tight but you CAN wear makeup. Day 3 – 4 – You will have a light graze consisting of micro crusting, flakey, and peeling that may occur for 5 or 7 days. Your skin will feel tight and dry for at least 7 days depending on how long it takes to heal. Keeping the skin extremely hydrated is key when it comes to a shorter healing process.
After Skin Needling
Be certain to adhere to the following post-treatment instructions and ONLY use the POST CARE KIT recommended by Beauty Bound for the first 7days.
WHAT TO AVOID
To ensure the proper healing environment, be certain to observe the following:
- For at least 7 days post-treatment, do NOT use any Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acid, Retinol (Vitamin A), Vitamin C (in a low pH formula), or anything perceived as ‘active’ skincare.
- Picking the area will result in infection and possible scarring and hyperpigmentation. Do not touch or rub the treated skin.
- Do not cleanse the treated area for at least 12 hours post-treatment.
- Avoid intentional and direct sunlight for 7 days. No tanning beds.
- DO NOT use hot water or “soak” in the tub. Bathe/shower with warm/cold water only for the first 7 days.
- Do not go swimming, hot tubs, jacuzzi for at least 7 days post-treatment.
- No exercising or strenuous activity for the first 72 hours post-treatment. Sweating and gym environments are harmful, rife with bacteria, and may cause adverse reactions.

Are you considering a microneedling treatment? Here are the pre and post-treatment steps you need to take for the safest and best results.
PRE-CARE
Avoid Accutane in the six months prior to beginning your treatment sessions.
Do not use topical agents that may increase the sensitivity of your skin such as retinoids, exfoliants, topical antibiotics, or acids 5-7 days prior to your treatment.
Do not take anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil for at least 3 days prior to your microneedling session. These will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical for your skin rejuvenation.
Avoid IPL/Laser procedures, unprotected sun exposure, or sunburn for at least 2 weeks prior to your procedure.
No waxing, depilatory creams, or electrolysis to the area being treated for 5-7 days prior.
Do not shave the day of the procedure to avoid skin irritation. If there’s dense hair present in the treatment area, shave the day before you arrive for your appointment.
If you’re prone to cold sores, take an antiviral agent for 2 days prior to and the day of the treatment.
Avoid blood-thinning agents for one week prior because bruising is a common side effect of microneedling.
AFTER-CARE
Please follow the instructions below to ensure proper healing from the procedure:
Post-Treatment Instructions
As with any cosmetic skin treatment, it’s important to look after your skin following a microneedling procedure for best results.
Post-Treatment Tips
Do not take any anti-inflammatory medications for one week after the procedure.
Do not use ice on your face, and avoid using arnica/bromelain. These may interfere with the natural inflammatory process that’s critical for your skin rejuvenation.
Avoid sun tanning and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight for at least 2 weeks. After 24 hours, always use sunblock (30 SPF or higher) and wear a hat if you’re outside.
Use a painkiller, such as Tylenol, if you experience any soreness.
A follow-up touch-up is usually necessary and can be completed any time after 4 weeks from the initial appointment.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT TO EXPECT AT MY APPOINTMENT?
- Your skin will be cleaned so it’s free of lotion, oil, makeup, powder, or sunscreen. If you wish, you can wash your face in the office upon arrival.
- You will be asked to inform your skincare specialist about any relevant changes in your medical history and of all the medications you’re taking.
- Your specialist will ask if there are any cosmetic tattoos in the treatment areas.
- 30-45 minutes prior to your treatment, topical lidocaine will be applied to your skin.
- The microneedling treatment is an in-office procedure that typically takes up to 60 minutes to complete.
WHAT DO I LOOK LIKE AFTER TREATMENT?
You will experience some redness and mild swelling for 2 to 4 days. You may even notice a slight bruising or several tiny blood spots, but they will disappear in 24 to 48 hours. Your skin will become smoother and radiant in a week.
WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT CONSIST OF?
The treatment includes cleaning and numbing the skin. A derma stamp pen or dermaroller with microneedles is used to produce thousands of micro punctures in the skin. Vitamin-C serum or Hyaluronic acid are applied after the treatment to enhance skin renewal and collagen growth.
WHAT IS THE DOWN TIME?
Microneedling has very low downtime. Skin redness and inflammation are very common. They will disappear within 24 hours. Your skin may become slightly pink for 2 to 4 days depending on the severity of the treatment.
DOES SKIN NEEDLING WORK ON OTHER SKIN COLOR?
Oh yes! it is safe for all skin types and colors. It doesn’t produce post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
IS IT PAINFUL?
This depends on the treatment intensity. If you have sensitive skin, you can apply numbing cream to minimize pain during the procedure.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE-EFFECTS?
There are over 150,000 procedures that were performed around the world, and there are no reported side effects.
IS IT SAFE FOR ME?
Micro-needling is harmless on all skin types since the epidermis is not damaged throughout treatment. The possibility of change in skin tones or hyper-pigmentation is small. Microneedling works on very sensitive regions (eyes, neck, back of hands) that can’t be addressed simply with other methods.
Microneedling is absolutely not appropriate for people who have used Accutane in the last 90 days, have poor wound healing, have open wounds, have had skin radiation therapy in the last year, are struggling with any kind of abnormal skin disease, are pregnant, and have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring.
